Textile Sculptures (Art Dolls)
As a result of a workshop I did online with Johanna Flannagan aka The Pale Rook in April 2020, I have made a major move back to Textiles and Doll making. These Art Dolls or Textile Sculptures are made from recycled fabric and all handstitched. The standing figures have a wire frame to support them. These are not made as children’s toys but for display purposes only.
Most measure around 30-40cm tall and my latest ones are mounted on wooden bases, some sit on purpose built stands but can be taken off and hung on the wall.

Materials – Mixed media – photograph, paper, handsewn cloth doll, doll filler and wool.
Dimensions – 18cm(h) x 40cm (w) x 26cm (d)
My aim was to replicate the doll cramped inside an old doll’s house that my grandfather made for me in the 1950s. It is a bit battered from various uses throughout the years but seems highly appropriate to demonstrate how it felt to be in lockdown in these troubled times. The house feels too small for us and there seems just no way out!
